IRI supports review of Waddani party campaign strategy

International Republican Institute “IRI” provided technical support to Somaliland’s main opposition party in reviewing party’s campaign strategy for the upcoming presidential election.

“We reviewed our campaign strategy in a week-long workshop as part of our preparations for the presidential election. Thanks to the International Republican Institute” Hamse Khaire, Waddani National Campaign Manager, said on Thursday during his speech in the closing session of a workshop held at Ambassador Hotel, Hargeisa.

Mr. Peter Mac Manu, an expert in African election campaigns and former chairman of Ghana New Patriotic Party participated in the workshop as a resource person and helped Waddani party reshape its campaign strategy to reflect the local context and attract prospect voters as much as possible.

According to Hamse, Mr. Peter was among the strategists who engineered President Mohamed Buhari’s victory in Nigeria in 2015.

Apart from the campaign manager, other key figures from Waddani leadership including Deputy Secretary General of Waddani Central Committee participated in the workshop and contributed to the review process.

Somaliland’s Presidential election is scheduled to take place on 13 November 2017 after several delays. Candidates from three national partiesย namely Muse Bihi Abdi (Kulmiye), Abdirahman Abdillahi “Irro” (Waddani) and Faysal Ali Waraabe (UCID) will contest for Presidency.
