President of Somaliland Launches the First Training Aircraft and Aviation Institute

The President of the Republic of Somaliland, Mr. Muse Bihi Abdi, has officially inaugurated the first training aircraft for the future Somaliland Airline, marking a significant milestone in the nation’s aviation sector.

During the launch event, President Bihi Abdi unveiled the aircraft, developed in partnership with Serbian aviation experts. He personally piloted the inaugural flight, which landed successfully, heralding a new era for Somaliland’s aviation industry.

In conjunction with the aircraft launch, the President also laid the foundation for a new Aviation Institute, under the auspices of the Somaliland Civil Aviation and Airport Authority. This institution aims to provide essential training for future pilots and aviation professionals. Additionally, he inaugurated a new terminal currently under construction at Egal Airport, enhancing the airport’s facilities.

During the ceremony, the President cut the ribbon on a modernised VIP lounge, highlighting the ongoing improvements within the aviation infrastructure.

The event featured speeches from various dignitaries, including top officials from Somaliland’s aviation sector, ministers, advisors, and experts involved in the pilot training programme. They commended the progress made by the nation and the commitment to advancing its aviation ambitions.

In his address, President Bihi Abdi praised the aviation authorities for their dedication and hard work in realising his vision of an independent national airline. He emphasised the importance of these developments in supporting the country’s broader development agenda.

In a gesture of recognition, the President presented certificates of honour to young Somalilanders who have pursued aviation studies abroad, as well as to the foreign experts who will assist in training the next generation of pilots.
