The President of the Republic of Somaliland, Mr. Muse Bihi Abdi, held a special meeting yesterday at the Presidential Palace with members of the deaf community residing in the capital, Hargeisa. The meeting was led by officials from the Somaliland Deaf Association (SODA).
Accompanied by ministers from the Ministries of Education, Health Development, and Family and Social Affairs, the President listened attentively as young representatives from the deaf community presented an overview of their living conditions. They highlighted areas where they require community support and outlined the assistance they seek from the government.
Among those present were various representatives from the deaf community, including Mr. Hassan Haybe Colujoog, Chairman of SODA; Mr. Mustafe Mohamed Osman, Director of the Organisation; Sports Head Nasir Abdi Aadan; Hibo Mohamed Dahir; Naciima Mahdi Abdi Maal; Hana Ali Jirde; Abdiraqib Abdullahi Ahmed; Faysa Mahmud Hassan; and Abdimaalik Ahmed. They expressed their gratitude to the President and his government for their dedicated attention and support. The community representatives requested enhanced educational opportunities and job creation initiatives.
Ministers Dr. Ahmed Aadan Buuxane from the Ministry of Education and Science, and Mr. Ali Omar Mohamed (Xoor-xoor) from the Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs, and Family, also addressed the meeting. They thanked the President for his commitment to engaging with the deaf community and reaffirmed the government’s readiness to address their needs as part of its broader development strategy.
President Muse Bihi Abdi expressed his appreciation to the youth for accepting his invitation and reiterated the government’s dedication to providing substantial support to the deaf community. He emphasised the importance of initiatives that would improve their quality of life.
