The 9th Hargeisa International Book Fair ย (HIBF) commences today in Hargeisa at Guleid Hotel. High level officials from the Government including the Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Sa’ad Ali Shire along ย with other guests from different places of the world have participated in aย colourful opening ceremony this morning.
HIBF is an annual cultural event in Somaliland. Every summer HIBF brings writers, poets, artists and thinkers from Somaliland and from all over the world.
The theme of this year is “Leadership and Creativity.” The Book Fair will be open from today until 28 July 2016. Many artists and writers from Ghana willย showcase their culture, talents and leadership wisdom in the HIBF 2016 as Ghana is “the guest of honor” of this year.
According to Hargeisa Cultural Center, an institutionย that organizes this eventย every year, the objective of HIBF isย to promote a culture of reading and writing in the region by producing and publishing high quality Somali literature and translating international classical literature into Somali.
