The Acting UN Representative of the Secretary-General, Mr. James Swan, met with the President of the Republic of Somaliland, Dr. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi, today at the Presidential Palace. This marks Mr. James Swan’s first visit to Somaliland since Abdirahman Irro was elected as President of Somaliland.

On 05 February 2025, the President of the Republic of Somaliland, Mr. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Cirro), held an important meeting at the Presidential Palace with the Acting Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Somaliland and Somalia, Mr. James Swan. Mr. Swan commended President Cirro on his successful election and the peaceful transition of power. They discussed the priorities of the new administration, with a focus on lasting peace and comprehensive reforms.
Mr. Swan welcomed President Cirro’s calls for peace and dialogue in conflict-affected areas and praised the establishment of the National Peace Committee. President Cirro, in turn, expressed gratitude for the UN’s ongoing support in various sectors and reiterated his administration’s commitment to achieving sustainable development and enhancing security in Somaliland.
