“Somaliland National Electoral Commission (NEC) will not tolerate political parties to unlawfully campaign during voter card distribution period.” This was said by Abdiqadir Iimaan Warsame, NEC Chairman, in an exclusive interview with the BBC Somali Service earlier on Sunday.

Mr. Warsame said political parties must not hold election campaigns during voter card distribution weeks as per the code of conduct jointly signed by the three political parties and NEC.

He urged leaders of political parties to refrain from any activity that could undermine election laws and the code of conduct.

“No election campaign signs by any political party should be seen in the country throughout the voter card distribution period” NEC chairman said.

According to BBC, the chairman of UCID opposition party Eng. Faisal Ali Waraabe accused Waddani and Kulmiye parties of conducting official election campaigns in Togdheer region which he said is violation against the political parties’ code of conduct.

The voter cards distribution for the upcoming presidential election to be held on 13th November simultaneously started in Maroodijeeh and Togdheer regions on 8th July and will continue until 30 July 2017.
