The Somaliland Diaspora Agency at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs & International Cooperation of the Republic of Somaliland is calling for celebrating Somalilandโs 58th Anniversary of June 26 2018 in all the foreign countries they are resident abroad.
โWe are firstly appreciative and grateful to our patriotic Diaspora for celebrating recent the 27th Anniversary of Somalilandโs independence reassertion day 18 May 2018 in 41 capital cities and towns in 33 countries in Africa, Europe, America, Asia, and Australia. And we are now to urge the Diaspora committees, activists, lobbyists, associations and all Somalilanders in the Diaspora to equally prepare for and organize ceremonial events in commemoration of June 26 2018, the Somalilandโs 58th Anniversary from when the British Protectorate of Somaliland received independence from the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland on June 26 1960.
These two national events in the successive months of June and May in the year are both momentous, and historic days in the history of Somaliland because of receiving independence and reassertion of the independence from the failed unity with Somalia respectively, and consequently memorializing them is not only imperative for the preservation of our countryโs history but also for the cause of Somaliland โ the 27 years old campaign in seeking international recognition. Within the Diaspora, it is an event you are to take the opportunity to raise awareness and educate the world in the real story, the ultimate determination, and the quest for international recognition of Somaliland by holding community events, parties, receptions, engaging prominent people and friends in your events, making demonstrations, submitting petitions to constituent parliamentarians, councilors, political parties, and the heads of states in the foreign host countries. As Announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs & International Cooperation, theme selected for this Anniversary June 26 2018 is โUnity, Recognition and Role of Somaliland Diasporaโ which entails strengthening unity, and cooperation, and the significant position of Somaliland Diaspora.
The commemoration of June 26 this year is coinciding with the incidence of the Tropical Cyclone โSagarโ which left negative impact on the lives of thousands of families particularly in the western coastal settlements, and a time we need to strongly unite for the welfare of nation,ย our peaceful coexistence, and defense, and most of all our untied voice as one people wherever are in the worldโ.ย
