UNFPA reviews its programmes in Somaliland, sets fresh plans for 2017

 

The United Nations Population Fund “UNFPA” on Thursday concluded a two-day workshop in Hargeisa in which the agency and partners reviewed its programmes in Somaliland and set new plans for 2017.

The Deputy Country Representative of UNFPA  Mr. Walter Mendonça Filho and senior officers from Ministry of Health, Minister of Youth and Sports, Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs as well as leaders of NGOs that are partners of UNFPA participated in the meeting.

The Director General of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Mohamed Dhabbeeye, who officially opened the workshop on Wednesday, said that he is honored to open UNFPA’s Annual Review and Planning Workshop and that he is expecting participants to put new plans in place to contribute to the development of the young people in Somaliland.

Ali Sheikh of MOH who also spoke at the opening ceremony emphasized the importance of the review meeting and added that UNFPA is one of the main partners of Somaliland’s Ministry of Health.

“We (MOH) are a close partner of UNFPA. We regularly work together on reproductive and maternal health projects” Mr. Sheikh said.

Mr. Khadar Mohamed Gahayr from the Ministry of National Planning and Development also praised UNFPA for improving the capacity of its staff, particularly its researchers and data collectors.

UNFPA has been implementing projects pertaining to youth, reproductive health, gender and population in Somaliland since 2006.
