Background

Somaliland Youth Peer Education Network (Somaliland Y-PEER) is youth led organization which promotes reproductive health rights, fights all types of gender-based violence, enhances youth employment opportunities, and develops leadership and entrepreneurship of young people and women in Somaliland. Its main office is in Hargeisa, with regional offices in Erigavo and Burao cities of Somaliland.

Introduction

Somaliland Y-PEER is working with Options Consultancy Services Ltd in a programme that has been established entitled ‘Support to the Africa-led movement (ALM) to end FGM/C’ to contribute to global efforts to achieve that vision.  The programme is funded by UK Government (Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office – FCDO) with the vision of a world free from Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C) by 2030, in line with the SDGs.

Position Title: Project Manager,

Duty Station: based in Erigavo with frequent travels to Sool region.

Duration: One year,

Description of the Position;

The Project Manager will be responsible for the overall project coordination, planning, designing, implementing, reporting and managing the overall activities of project in Sanaag and Sool regions of Somaliland as well as the communications with partners, donors, line ministries and other key stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities and Duties;

The Project Manager performs the following key responsibilities under the supervision of the Executive Director.

  • Responsible for the planning of the project activities in accordance with the approved project plan and budget.
  • Monitor the local context and inform Options Consultancy Services Ltd. of any event or situation which might affect the implementation of the project and which may necessitate a modification of the schedule, implementation, the agreed budget or other aspects of the agreement.
  • Responsible for the implementing the project activities in coordination with project officers, partner organizations, key stakeholders and Options Consultancy Services Ltd.
  • Approved project detailed work plans as submitted by the project officers
  • Ensure and proof read the monthly reports from the project officers
  • Develop monthly quarterly and annual project narrative reports
  • Monitor the use of funds by ensuring that budget is in line as approved activities and lines.
  • Quickly update and communicate with Y-PEER executive director and the finance manager for any budget deviations,
  • Provide updates and report to The Girl Generation (TGG)-Support to the Africa-Led Movement (ALM) to End FGM/C’ Programme team on Monthly basis and make Options Consultancy Services Ltd accessible for any project documents as requested or required
  • Supervise and monitor the work plans of the project staff
  • Ensure that all project records are kept secure, accurate and up-to-date,
  • Provide capacity development trainings to project staff,
  • Conduct monitoring visits to project activities and mentor, advice and coach the staff according,
  • Measure project performance to identify areas for improvement and lessons learned
  • Keep updated about the project activities and progress to the local authorities through a formal reports and meetings,

Qualifications, Education & Experience Requirements:

  • A bachelor degree in development Studies, Business Administration (MBA) or equivalent knowledge in organizational/project management. Master’s degree is preferable
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in project management in development or humanitarian sector
  • Excellent analytical and research skills
  • Excellent writing, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent proposal and report writing skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
  • Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail
  • Strong computer skills,
  • Good knowledge on the use of social media mainly twitter and Facebook
  • Sufficient knowledge of the local context of Sanaag and Togdheer regions of Somaliland
