Background;

Somaliland Youth Peer Education Network (Somaliland Y-PEER) is youth led organization which promotes reproductive health rights, fights all types of gender-based violence, enhances youth and women employment opportunities, and develops leadership and entrepreneurship of young people and women in Somaliland. Its main office is in Hargeisa, with regional offices in Erigavo and Burao cities of Somaliland.

Introduction

Somaliland Y-PEER is working with Options Consultancy Services Ltd in a programme that has been established entitled ‘Support to the Africa-led movement (ALM) to end FGM/C’ to contribute to global efforts to achieve that vision.  The programme is funded by UK Government (Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office – FCDO) with the vision of a world free from Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C) by 2030, in line with the SDGs.

Position Title:  Project Officer (1 Position)

Duty Stations:  based in Ainabo with frequent travels outside villages and towns of the same region.

Duration: One year.

Description of the Position 

The Project Officer will be responsible for the implementation of the project activities in the respective regions Sanaag and Sool with close working relationship with local communities, IDP camps, rural villagers, partner organizations, Options Consultancy Services Ltd staff and local authorities.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

The Project Officer performs the following key responsibilities under the supervision of the Project Manager.

  • Develops project activities schedules and Implements accordingly
  • Liaison with local communities, IDP camps, rural villagers and local authorities about the project plans and progress,
  • Prepare monthly activity plan and budget
  • Initiate and provide technical support to the project manager and Options Consultancy Services Ltd field staff.
  • Attends project meetings at regional and national levels and as per the guidelines and advices of Project Manager.
  • Prepare monthly reports and provide the required inputs on the quarterly and annual reports.
  • Assist Finance Officer on all matters related to finance, including related record keeping and reports from the field office.
  • Manage and supervise trainers, facilitators, moderators, enumerators and all project recruited consultants at the field level.
  • Establishes and maintains project beneficiary’s data base at regional level
  • Make sure that quality and appropriate documentation is collected, prepared and produced and shared timely to the Project Manager
  • Maintain and keep update on all project documents at the regional office,
  • Represent the project and Y-PEER Somaliland in major events at the regional level
  • Ensure synergy through collaboration and networking with other Options Consultancy Services Ltd partners and stakeholders implementing similar activities and projects
  • Play a pivotal role in coordination of similar interventions in the region
  • Prepare highly photos and success stories in coordination with the communications officer,
  • Provide updates and report to Project Manager
  • Any other duties assigned by Project Coordinator or Executive Director

Qualifications, Education & Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor degree in Business Administration, project management or equivalent knowledge in humanitarian and development projects,
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in project management particularly gender-based violence or reproductive health projects.
  • Excellent in writing reports
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
  • Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail
  • Strong computer skills particularly in Microsoft office
  • Sufficient knowledge of the local context of Sanaag (or Togdheer region based on your application) of Somaliland
  • Respect for human rights, principles of professionalism, equal opportunities, diversity, transparency and democracy.

  • Familiar with use of social media sites
