Bob Marley wrote the following song while touring Haiti. He was deeply moved by its poverty , oppression, lawlessness and injustice. That country was ruled by hated Jean-Claude Duvalier who was very much similar to today’s President Silaanyo’s corrupt regime. This song urges the oppressed to fight against oppression and to stand-up for his rights to the last minute. It is applicable to all Somalilanders, and in particular to NEW UCID supporters. Get Up, Stand Up was the last song Bob Marley performed on stage on 23 September 1980 .
Get up stand up song text
Get up, stand up: stand up for your right
Get up, stand up: stand up for your right
What life is really worth
It’s not all that glitters is gold
Half the story has never been told
So now you see the light,
You stand up for your right,
Come on!
Get up, stand up: stand up for your right
Get up, stand up: don’t give up the fight
Most people think
Great God will come from the sky
Take away everything
And make everybody feel high
You stand up for your rights,
Get up, stand up
Stand up for your right .
Don’t give up the fight.
Oh Kulmiye ,
You can fool some people sometimes
But you can’t fool all the people all the time
So now we see the light .
We gonna stand up for our rights ,
Get up, stand up
Stand up for your right
Don’t give up the fight.
