Somaliland National Electoral Commission with the collaboration of Somaliland Y-PEER and ADAMS ACADEMY have on Saturday launched in Hargeisa a voter education campaign on voter card distribution.
Maroodijeeh sultans and chiefs, elders, as well as different election stakeholders including government, civil society organizations, youth and women groups, participated in a town hall meeting in which participants discussed the best ways voter education campaign could be conducted in Maroodijeeh region.
The Governor of Maroodijeeh region Mr. Abdillaahi Jibriil Gaahnuug “Buraale”, while addressing the meeting, urged Maroodijeeh eligible voters to collect their voter cards as per Somaliland National Electoral Commission schedule.
“Only those who collect their voter cards before the election will be able to cast their votes on the election day” the Governor said.
Muna Bile Hirsi, an official from the National Electoral Commission, briefed participants about the voter card distribution plan for Madoorijeeh region and emphasized importance of effective voter education which she said is is key to successful voter card distribution to all eligible citizens.
Mr. Mohamed Mahad Dhama, Director of Y-PEER Network, one of the local partners undertaking voter education campaign in Maroodijheeh, said that their organization in collaboration with ADAMS Acadamy and NEC, planned to undertake effective voter education campaign before and throughout the voter card distribution period and intend to reach both urban and rural areas of Maroodijeeh to ensure that all required information is available for prospect voters and promote high turnout in voter card distribution weeks.
The voter card distribution is to be launched in Maroodijeeh region on Saturday and will continue until 28 July. According to NEC, the voter education campaign will continue all these period both in the urban and rural areas of Maroodijeeh, which is the most populous region in Somaliland.
